Intellectual Property

IP with purpose

IPRD Group CEO, Dr. Keith Hanna, developed and managed the IP portfolio of the Vision Systems division at Sarnoff Corporation for over 15 years and the IP portfolio at EyeLock Corporation for over 10 years. He ensured freedom-to-operate while asserting rights for both pioneering and mature technologies including video-based traffic management, graphics in broadcast television, medical imaging, video surveillance, immersive virtual-reality training systems, and computer vision systems for autonomous navigation, unmanned aerial vehicles/drones, and iris recognition.

Dr. Hanna holds over 50 patents that have enabled multiple business transactions and deployments worldwide.

Research

Cross-disciplinary excellence

After a multi-disciplinary Engineering Sciences degree majoring in Electrical Engineering, Dr. Hanna spent 3 years at the Medical Engineering Unit and the Robotics Research Group at Oxford University for the D.Phil degree in Medical Imaging and Computer Vision, including 2 years working with clinicians at the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology developing algorithms to test the efficacy of anti-cataract drugs. He spent 6 months working with engineers at the Osney Thermo-Fluids Laboratory at Oxford University designing and deploying high-speed communication electronics for the remote acquisition of data from aircraft engines. Dr. Hanna has more than 20 years of experience working in the commercial and government domains, and is a world-recognized industry leader in the research, development and deployment of pioneering algorithms, software, and systems for transformative real-world applications such as autonomous vehicle navigation, virtual reality systems, video surveillance, and biometrics.

Dr. Hanna has over 25 peer-reviewed publications and is the recipient of the Most Influential Paper over the Decade Award, 2007, from the International Association of Pattern Recognition, for his pioneering work in iris recognition.

Deployment

Deployments that transform

Dr. Hanna has performed world-class deployments with major corporations and government agencies for over 20 years. He spent more than 13 years embedded in commercial startup or spin-off companies to transition development from the research environment to the deployed environment. Deployments include: video traffic detection systems now deployed at roadsides worldwide to optimize traffic flow, systems deployed across continents for processing video from unmanned aerial vehicles/drones, biometric iris-access ATMs, the first iris-access skyscraper at Bank Of America headquarters, and the Emmy-award-winning vision system now deployed globally for embedding graphics within televised sports events including the yellow first-down-line in American football. He also developed the intellectual property and systems for pioneering 3D Tactical Video Capture Systems technology (TVCS), performed the prototypical deployments, and managed its transition to a major defense contractor resulting in deployments worldwide including those from a $326m government contract.
